I guess it is time to try to get back on track, to the original purpose for this blog. Right now I'm not on the emotional rollercoaster, and it's good to take some stock of what to do now.
My Lutheran Study Bible arrived, and I went to the church to pick it up today and pay for it. We got a ten dollar discount. And the Bethel Bible Study course starts in two weeks from tonight! I have read the Bible, including the Apocrapha/Deuterocanonicals before. I was more interested at the time in the social/cultural background. I was reading the Bible more as a cultural artifact, and from a decidedly secular perspective. But this time, I will be approaching the book with more emphasis on the religious. Does God speak through the Bible? Time to find out!
I think it is good, when you find a worshipping community, to do at least one other thing besides Sunday worship. It fosters community, is a great opportunity for fellowship, and if it is a good class that you do, it broadens the mind for spiritual and mental growth. In my case, the summer was a harder time for me becausde all the classes stop during summer break. You go to worship, maybe socialize a bit after, and thats it. But like anything else worth doing, you need a little more than once a week.
If you find a community you are drawn to, and feel at home in, read the bulliten or newsletter, and find an activity that interests you. A Bible class, a committee, a volunteer team...see what is there and find a place.
I feel better now than the last few nights. I do not have to clean up or save the ELCA. All I have to do is help make my little corner a bit brighter.
What I am saying now is, I'm not going to leave my church, despite it's ELCA affiliation. At least, I am not making any plans to do so. No good would come of it, and frankly I don't have anywhere else to go right now. Such a move is not needed now. Trinity has good things going for it, and why should I jettison the friends I have made over what happened last month at the ELCA assembly?
